HUMBLE BEGINNINGS, BIG DREAMS (or what made me finally take action and follow my passions)

Few people can point to a specific defining moment in their lives that made them take massive action and follow their big dreams.
I am fortunate to remember a few.

One of those life-changing moments was almost 3 years ago, reading Yuval Yuval Abramovitz’s ‘The List: Shout Out Your Dreams! (Motivation & Inspiration For Success & Happy Life).
In a very relatable, simple and non woo-woo way the book tells the author’s remarkable story of triumphing over paralysis, drawing up a list of life dreams and pursuing each one to success. But the book isn’t just a story; containing a lifetime’s inspiration for readers to plan out their own dreams and grab them with gusto.
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS, BIG DREAMS
You see I was not happy with work for a while.
Successful by any external parameter something just felt off… not quiet me. Reading the book has literally helped shifting my focus and articulating the vision… shout out my dreams if you will.
In many aspects, this was one of the founding blocks of Expat Renaissance.

So you can imagine the excitement when I (accidentally) learnt that Yuval will be giving a talk in Paris. Obsessed with the book, I rushed out and also begged him for an interview.

So without any further ado, here’s Yuval in his own words:
You have accomplished so much in life. What would define as your passion?

You’ve met so many interesting and inspiring people from all around the world (both as a journalist and as part of The List project). What do successful dreamers have in common?
I think the most evident common dominator is that people follow true. They don’t just have a great idea or a dream, they are willing to work hard, pay in sweat, blood and tears to make it a reality. There is always a price to pay and you have to ask yourself whether you are ready to pay it.
Yuval shout out your dreams
Are you afraid sometimes? Of what?
Yes I do get scared, but I’m not afraid of failing of afraid of succeeding. Nobody teaches us how to handle success. I’m seeing a physiologist to learn how to internalize the success.. it’s not part of our upbringing and so people often find it hard, me included.
I’m also afraid of heights and flying… not an easy trait to have when you’re trying to take on the world.

What is the most exciting dream that you have heard?
Wow there are so many. Somebody wants to be an animator for Disney studios, somebody else has a brilliant idea for a book. I’m approached by dozens of people on a daily basis sharing they dreams and lists with me. Honestly I find that every dream is inspiring an amazing… you just have to act on that.
You are an inspiration for many people. Who inspires you? And why?
Well if you’ve read the book, you’ll know that Oprah Winfrey is a huge inspiration. A self-made woman against all odds and just look at her empire. I also like her navigating success into positive impact and making the world a bit of a better place.
Other than that I’m surrounded by many inspiring a unique people around me. Everybody who follows his/her dreams and pushes through is an inspiration. It doesn’t have to be grand scale, as long as it makes you feel good and accomplished… that’s all it takes.
The globalization d social media have changed our lives in many ways. How do they impact dreams and careers?
The world is a very small place. My grandpa is 94 years old, and he’s relatively well aware of the modern changes. I told him about all the crazy developments with The List – in the Netherland China France, Australia… and he asked me: “so do you have an agent in each of those countries?”. The answer is no. Everything that has happened is just because of social media.
Everything is approachable. You’ve been on a Skype and want to follow through with an in-person meeting? Not a problem. You can get on the next plane to Spain or Amsterdam. You don’t have to spend your entire life savings on that. People become huge stars by making YouTube videos – no agent, no label contracts… just them and the social media.
What is next on your own list?
Most of the things I had on my list are coming true….. and so today my dreams are shifted to something much more basic. I strive to create a better balance for myself. The List has gained such a momentum and it has a life of its own now. Sometimes it’s hard to prioritize myself and my family in the minds of all of it.
So what are the dreams that you want to achive? Tell us in teh commenst bellow.
